Welcome to Digital Mantelpiece

This website is a showcase for stories by people from Glenorchy in Hobart, Tasmania.

Digital Mantelpiece : Background

Throughout 2012, people from the Glenorchy community were invited to bring in an item from their mantelpiece, or an item which had some significance to them, to share their story. Some of them told their story to a “story booth” setup at the Glenorchy LINC, others took part in workshops with CuriousWorks, and others collaborated with local writer Karen Knight to create text and audio pieces. Local filmmaker Troy Melville contributed 3 short high-quality film pieces to bring us to over 50 stories to feature in the exhibition and on this website.

The website and exhibition were launched on Wendesday 22nd August, 2012. New additions to the site include Arts Heroes of Glenorchy Postcards added in August 2015 as part of Glenorchy’s 150 year anniversary.

Special thanks to all our storytellers and community partners.
